Thame Area Guide

Thame is a beautiful and thriving market town that is located just 14 miles from Oxford City Centre.

Living in Thame

Recently the smaller properties, that are ideal for young couples and families, have been really popular and we have definitely seen an increase compared to previous years. It is a great family town. Thame is a great place to base yourself especially for young couples where one is still working in London and one has a job in Oxford, Thame is a logical choice because of the excellent connectivity to both!

Learning in Thame

Thame is known for its amazing, non-selective, schools. Lord William’s School (ages 11-18) is a very popular school in the area. They have an extensive extra-curricular programme of clubs which makes a strong contribution to the students’ personal development! Lord Williams was rated as ‘Outstanding’ from Ofsted in the most recent inspection. There are three incredible primary schools to choose from should you move to the area, they are; Barley Hill Primary School, John Hampden Primary School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. All have excellent ratings from Ofsted and are particularly sought after!

Relaxing in Thame

Thames High Street has its own mix of supermarkets making it perfect for your everyday needs. It is also home to some wonderful local businesses as well as being home to the bustling traders market every Tuesday that provides the best fresh quality produce. There are a fair few independent pubs and restaurants which provide the yummiest food (and the prettiest beer gardens) – such as The Thatch or The Black Horse. For a nice walk you could take a stroll along the Phoenix Trail which runs from Princes Risborough to Thame, perfect for a long dog walk on a summers evening. Don’t forget to try the famous Atalay’s Kebab Van that is rated the top Kebab Van in the UK – trust me, it is not like a normal kebab!

Highlight of Thame

‘Black Goo’ is a great new spot that opened in the summer of 2020. Its interior is phenomenal and their cakes are even better! In the evening the cosy café turns into a lively bar with music and a great atmosphere. It is located in the Butter Market just off of North Street. A definite must visit spot in Thame!

Local View

I have lived in Thame for just over two years and it definitely feels like home. The residents are so friendly and everything you need is a stone’s throw away.
